HOW TO PUT IN EYE DROPS INFORMATION:
- Remove lid, not touching end where drop comes out
- Lie on your back looking straight up at the ceiling
- Hold the bottle with the hand you write with, or is best at control
- Place the fingers on your other hand on the lower lid, and pull down slightly
- Bend these fingers, so that they form a platform
- Rest your right hand on your left hand and tilt the bottle so it is about 1” from the eye (change the directions if you are left-handed).
- Looking straight up at the ceiling, NOT at the bottle, move the tip of the bottle over the eye
- You must move the bottle into your line of vision, while still looking straight up
- Gently squeeze the bottle, until ONE drop falls into the eye
- Don’t touch the eye with the bottle. Keep it the 1” away at all times.
- Tip the bottle back up, so that it does not keep dripping, wasting the drops
- Look down and push your upper eyelid up with one of your finger, so that the drop runs under the lid.
- Close both eyes for about 15 seconds, to let the drop soak in behind the eyelids
- Do not blot, as the tissue will act like a blotter, and remove some medication—only catch what might run down your cheek.
- If drop is used in both eyes, repeat the above
- Recap the bottle tightly and store in a cool place, away from bright sunlight
Wait 10-15 minutes between drops, if you have two kinds of drops to use on the same eye
If you are having difficulty with tasting your medication, you can pinch your nose securely between two fingers about ½-1” below you eyes, so the drops do not drain into the nose and throat.
