Dr. Johnny Gayton, MD Contributing Author in Mastering Refractive IOLs: the Art and Science February 28, 2009
Warner Robins, GA, November 20, 2008 – Dr. Johnny Gayton recently received a copy of the book Mastering Refractive IOLs: the Art and Science, in which he is a contributing author. Mastering Refractive IOLs: the Art and Science is a collaboration of well-known international eye surgeons covering the most up-to-date information on the latest advances in refractive intraocular lens technology and surgery. Intraocular lenses are used to correct the vision of patients following cataract surgery. Years ago patients had to wear thick glasses following the removal of their cataract. Now due to work of surgeons like Gayton many patients are able to see better than they ever have in their life. Dr. Gayton authored the chapters on What if Multifocal IOL Patients Develop ARMD? and Laser Enhancement for Astigmatism-Bioptics. He was chosen for these chapters due to his career long work in treating astigmatism. Earlier this year he was chosen to teach surgeons in Hong Kong, Bejing, Budapest, Kunming and numerous U.S. cities his methods for treating astigmatism. His results with using the astigmatism correcting intraocular lenses are considered some of the best in the world and are soon to be published in a medical journal. The forward of Mastering Refractive IOLs: the Art and Science states “Ophthalmology is entering an exciting new era. The technology is rapidly changing, our boundaries are expanding, and today every cataract patient can expect to receive an intraocular lens that will not only replace their natural failing lens, but will, in the vast majority of cases, function safely, and at a better optical level, than the lens of a “normal” phakic individual of the same age. This new technology will continue to improve, and with it we share the joy, the excitement, and sheer-exhilaration of restoring sight to those who have never been able to see the world clearly. Dr. Johnny L. Gayton and the vision correction team at Eyesight Associates, located at 216 Corder Road in Warner Robins, GA, are known worldwide as experts in this exciting field. Dr. Gayton has become one of the most requested lecturers in ophthalmology due to his results with this exciting technology.

Rampage Pro Wrestling Members Win Big In Georgia Wrestling’s 2008 Awards
February 28, 2009
Rampage Pro Wrestling won numerous awards in the Georgiawrestling.tk annual ballotting. Dr. Johnny Gayton won promoter of the year, while his feud with Hot Like Lava won storyline of the year. Hot Like Lava, currently RPW’s tag team champions, were also named Georgiawrestling.tk’s tag team of the year. Members won individual awards as well. Cru Jones was heel of the year and Microphone worker of the year. Shaun Banks was cruiserweight of the year. Beautiful Tracey Taylor, the current RPW Hottie’s champion, earned female wrestler of the year honors. RPW supporters were named fans of the year.
RPW’s success despite being in existence for only six months proves one of my sayings. "There is always room at the top." If a person or organization’s desire is to be the best they can be and they work hard and smart toward that goal, it is amazing what can be accomplished. Who would have thought that a small eye practice in rural GA would ever be known worldwide? The same holds true with RPW.
It is now a major player on the independent wrestling scene and is growing. Our first supercard will be on April 10 at Macon City Auditorium. It will feature a ladder match and a hair vs hair battle. Dr. Johnny Gayton will put his hair up against the hair of Hot Like Lava leader, Cru Jones. These two have been feuding for six months, and each plans to end the feud by causing his opponent to have a "chrome dome." International superstar and current heavyweight champion Micah Taylor will also defend his title on the card. Numerous national superstars, including Warner Robins natives Ron Simmons and AJ Steele, have expressed interest in being on the card.

Gayton Wins 7 First Place Medals at AAU World Championships at Disney World
December 15, 2008
On October 6th Dr. Johnny Gayton, a well known Georgia eye surgeon, fulfilled a lifelong dream. He had dreamed of winning a world title since he was a small child. The 51 year old physician had shocked the powerlifting world this year by going undefeated in multiple meets setting numerous records and winning many events. He won 42 national titles earlier this year which qualified him for 4 world championship events. The first was the Southern Powerlifting Federation world championships in Gatlinburg on October 6th. He won 12 events including the 165 pound open title. Open means that it is open to every age category.
Six short days later he was at it again competing in the prestigious AAU world championships at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando. Most powerlifters avoid competing in meets so close together. Dr. Gayton relished the opportunity to compete in such a respected event. "I would have done it on one day’s rest, if I had to" he stated. This meet was different from most of his meets for he had to lift without protective equipment. The only supportive equipment allowed was his well worn leather weightlifting belt. Gayton surprised himself by setting records with every lift and winning all 7 of the events that he entered. His large smile wiped away much of the fatigue from a tough day of competing. Gayton wore a Warner Robins Little League world championship shirt at both events. While he doesn’t consider it a lucky shirt, he uses it to help motivate him. "If those boys could win a world title for our great nation, I felt I could too. Besides us baby boomers are not ready to be put out to pasture just yet." And win he did, Gayton has now won all 19 events that he has competed in. With 2 more world meets and 1 national meet to go in 2007, he could have to enlarge his trophy room. However, he is the first to tell you that this is not about trophies. "It is about doing the best you can do at whatever you undertake and challenging yourself to do better."
2008 Started Out With a Bang for Middle Ga’s Powerlifting Eye Surgeon, Dr. Johnny Gayton
December 15, 2008
2008 has started out with a bang for Middle Ga’s powerlifting eye surgeon, Dr. Johnny Gayton. On January 22 he taught a standing room only course in Hawaii dealing with techniques that he has developed to improve the results of cataract surgery. He immediately flew to Utah, where he was named "speaker of the day" for his talk on enabling cataract patients to see better without glasses following surgery.
Eyesight Associates’ results with improving vision have been so good that he is scheduled to speak in China, Greenville, Miami, Vegas, and at Niagra Falls over the next few weeks. You might think because of such a busy schedule lecturing and taking care of patients, he has let the weightlifting slide. Nothing could be further from the truth. On February 9 in Warner Robins he broke 2 GA state deadlift records and won 2 first place trophies. "It sure was exciting to pull 2 records with family and friends there to support me," he stated. December 15, 2008
At last night’s Rampage Wrestling event at Johnny G’s in Warner Robins, GA the crowd was cheering and the building was rocking. Dr. Johnny Gayton entered the ring after the third match and challenged "Hot Like Lava" team member Shaun Banks to enter the ring. Dr. Gayton confronted Shaun about his efforts in intentionally injure his left shoulder preventing him from entering the powerlifting world championship qualifying event held last weekend. Banks began taunting Gayton and them charged him. Dr. Gayton moved and Banks hit the turnbuckle. Gayton then used his powerlifting experience to hoist Banks up on his shoulders and administer a hard Samoan drop. That was quickly followed with the "People’s elbow." Gayton evidently was ready for a confrontation for he pulled a tube of red lipstick and smeared it on Banks face. He scooted out of the ring and anounced to the crowd, "That is what lipstick on a pig really looks like." Rampage Professional Wrestling is featured live every Sunday at 4:00 at Johnny G’s.

Eyesight Associates Treats Cataracts With FIRST and ONLY Lens Implant
September 23, 2005
Approved by the FDA to Improve Functional Vision in Older Adults
Warner Robins, Georgia, September 23, 2005—Dr. Johnny L. Gayton, MD of Eyesight Associates recently used the latest advanced intraocular lens technology to help patients receiving cataract surgery here in Middle Georgia. The TECNIS™ intraocular lens (IOL) has been FDA-approved to improve functional vision and contrast sensitivity. This may provide a meaningful safety benefit for older drivers and for those with whom they share the road and could also improve safety for other life situations under low visibility conditions.
Cataract surgery involves removing the clouded natural lens of the eye (the cataract) and replacing it with an artificial lens implant. It is the most common surgical procedure in the world with 14 million procedures performed each year. The TECNIS™ lens implant was designed with a patented modified prolate surface to correct lost vision from the cataract, and restore the balance between the cornea of the eye and the new artificial lens to provide vision more like that of a 20-year-old person with a healthy cornea and healthy natural lens. “The TECNIS™ lens implant can provide many post-cataract surgery patients with safer, sharper vision,” said Dr. Gayton. “For my patients with cataracts, losing the ability to drive or drive safely, especially at night, is of great concern. Many people in their 60s or 70s are still very active and want to drive, go out at night, or see clearly to read or watch TV. The TECNIS™ lens provides a quality of vision that can help them achieve those goals.” Clinical studies have shown that a loss of functional vision when driving in low light conditions can make it more difficult to detect objects and road markings. The TECNIS™ lens is the FIRST and ONLY IOL approved by the FDA to improve functional vision.
1 Studies presented to the FDA reported that, in a night driving simulator test, the TECNIS™ lens provided a 45-foot advantage in detection and identification of a pedestrian hazard compared to a traditional lens implant.
2 At 55 mph, this translates into an additional half second to take evasive action, stop, or lessen the effect of impact. By comparison, the third rear brake light, now required by law on all automobiles, provided only one-third of a second in additional braking time.
3 A study by the Potomac Institute used economic modeling to show that improved driving performance, such as provided by the functional vision improvement with the TECNIS™ lens, could translate into substantial reduced costs in automobile accidents that could reach millions of dollars per year.
The TECNIS™ Intraocular Lens is made by Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), Inc. of Santa Ana, California. AMO is a global medical device leader focused on the discovery and delivery of innovative vision technologies that optimize quality of life for people of all ages.

TECNIS™ foldable intraocular lenses are indicated for primary implantation for the visual correction of aphakia in adults in whom a cataractous lens has been removed by phacoemulsification. The lenses are intended to be placed in the capsular bag. Rx Only. Precautions: Do not resterilize the lens; do not soak or rinse the lens with any solution other than sterile saline solution; do not store the lens in direct sunlight. Warnings: Surgeons should consider the risk/benefit ratio for adults with preoperative ocular pathology, including but not limited to inflammation, distorted eye and microbial infection. Adverse Events: Adverse events that have been documented as having occurred following intraocular lens implantation include, but are not limited to, corneal edema, iritis, lens dislocation, hyphema, macular edema and retinal detachment. For a complete listing of precautions, warnings and adverse events, refer to the package insert or www.TECNISIOL.com.
The TECNIS™ intraocular lens (Z9000) is produced under at least one of the following U.S. Letters Patent Nos.: 5,104,590; 5,444,106; 6,007,747; 6,609,793; and 6,705,729. Likewise patents pending and foreign equivalents are available upon request.

Dr. Johnny Gayton Lectures in Park City, Utah
February 14, 2005
Dr. Johnny Gayton of Eyesight Associates recently traveled to Park City, Utah on January 20-22, 2005, to lecture on the use of LASEK to enhance the results of other refractive procedures. Performing a LASEK enhancement after other refractive procedures has enabled many patients disappointed with their LASIK and other refractive procedure results to achieve better vision. LASEK is a method of doing Laser Vision Correction without performing a stromal flap. This results in a cornea that maintains its structural integrity and fully heals. Dr. Gayton is widely regarded as one of the nation’s leading experts on LASEK having performed it for five years. He has lectured on the benefits and technique of LASEK in numerous states. These qualifications are why Dr. Gayton was chosen to take part in an extensive debate with fellow ophthalmologist, Dr. Doug Koch, while in Park City. The two doctors debated the merits of LASEK versus LASIK.
Dr. Gayton also presented a video taped at Eyesight Associates demonstrating the ease and efficiency of setting up the Infiniti Cataract Removal System. Eyesight Associates placed the first order in the world for this groundbreaking technology. Since obtaining the Infiniti System in August 2003, Dr. Gayton has used this new technology to safely remove almost 2000 cataracts. Smoking Dramatically Increases the Risk of Blinding Eye Disease
August 18, 2004
Warner Robins, Georgia, August 18, 2004 ñ Dr. Johnny L. Gayton, MD of Eyesight Associates would like to help make the public aware of the increasing rate of blindness due to smoking. A recently published article in the Eurotimes: A European Outlook on the World of Ophthalmology stated ìEye specialists must make smokers aware that tobacco dramatically increases the risk of blinding eye disease.î
The author of the article estimated that as many as 53,900 people in the UK may have visual impairment due to smoking-related AMD (age-related macular degeneration). Of these 53,900 people, 17,800 are blind from AMD attributed to smoking. Currently smokers have three times an increased risk of developing AMD than non-smokers do. Smokers also develop AMD 10 years sooner than non-smokers.
One of the biggest problems pertaining to the risk of smoking to the eye is public ignorance. Most people do not know how many different ways smoking can affect their eyes. AMD is irreversible; therefore it is very important for health professionals and the public to be aware of the correlation between smoking and AMD. Smoking also contributes to blindness by making other eye conditions such as glaucoma worse. Health professionals are able to direct their patients to the proper resources for smoking cessation.
