Consider the truth behind the myths surrounding cataracts:

Myth: Cataract surgery is dangerous.

Cataract surgery is extremely safe. Before your surgery, we will measure your eye and create a detailed plan for your procedure. Our surgeons use the Catalys Precision Laser System which increases accuracy and consistency during your surgery. The ultimate goal is to restore your vision and improve your quality of life!

Myth: Cataracts have no signs or symptoms.

Cataracts usually develop slowly, which also means that their signs and symptoms may not be noticeable at first. However, if you experience any of the following issues, you may have a developing cataract:

  • Desaturated colors
  • Difficulty driving or reading
  • Dimming or blurring vision
  • Double vision
  • Frequent changing or cleaning of glasses
  • Halos around lights
  • Sensation of “film” in one’s vision

Myth: Certain tasks make cataracts worse.

Your eye’s lens consists of water and protein. When the protein clumps together, it disrupts the process of light entering your eye. This will cause what you see to become cloudy. Certain tasks you do cannot affect this protein build up.

Myth: A change in diet or eye drops can fix my cataract.

Unfortunately, changing your diet or using eye drops are not ways to treat your cataract. The only way to fix your cataract is to have surgery. The cloudy lens will be carefully removed, and an artificial lens will replace it. In very little recovery time, you will be able to see clearer and better in no time.
